CHEST Ireland is a HEA body which negotiates collective deals for software and datasets on behalf of Irish academic institutions.

 

The Library Association of Ireland represents the library community in Ireland .

 

HEAnet hosts internet interest groups from the Irish third level educational and research community.

 

An Comhairle Leabharlanna (The Library Council) advises local and national government in Ireland on public library issues.

LIR provides a forum for discussion on the use of electronic resources and networks in HEA-funded libraries. Membership includes the universities and many Institutes of Technology. It runs a useful seminar each year.

CILIP is the body formed from the amalgamation of the UK Library Association and the Institute of Information Scientists . It represents the interests of the UK library profession. It has useful publications and training courses.

UKSG, the United Kingdom Serials Group, encourages the exchange of ideas on print and electronic serials.

AcqWeb provides useful information for library acquisitions staff. 

Against the Grain is based in Charleston, South Carolina. By means of a yearly conference there, and a journal published 6 times a year, it links librarians, publishers and vendors of books, journals and systems.

 

ARL is the Association of Research Libraries in the USA .

 

Association for Library Collections and Technical Services is the part of the American Library Association dealing with the needs of acquisitions staff. 

 

IFLANET, the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions, which has headquarters in France , is an international umbrella group for the promotion of libraries.

 

Bowker, which includes ISBN/SAN, Ulrichs, BIP/GBIP, is an international bibliographic information provider. 

 

ISSN International Centre uniquely identifies serials including electronic serials.
